INTRODUCTION

A pipe demagnetizer is a device used in pipeline construction to remove or reduce the residual magnetism present in steel pipes. The demagnetization process is important because residual magnetism can interfere with the accurate functioning of instruments used in pipeline inspection, such as magnetic flux leakage (MFL) detectors.
Residual magnetism can occur in steel pipes due to various reasons, including the manufacturing process, transportation, and handling. The presence of magnetic fields can affect the accuracy of inspections, making it difficult to detect defects like corrosion or cracks.
A pipe demagnetizer works by applying an alternating current (AC) magnetic field to the steel pipe. This magnetic field gradually reduces the residual magnetism in the pipe, neutralizing any magnetic effects. The demagnetizer typically consists of a power source and a demagnetization coil. The coil is wrapped around the pipe, and the AC current flowing through it generates a magnetic field that gradually decreases the residual magnetism.
